In 1981, Ron and Diane Miller established Silverado Vineyards in the heart of Stags Leap District. Over the years, they expanded their estate to include six distinctive vineyards in the Napa Valley and Carneros. The beautiful fruit from these ranches is the exclusive source of Silverado Vineyards Estate and Single Vineyard wines.Vineyards Stags Leap Vineyard 50% The sloping, gravelly soils and sunny exposure of this vineyard helped establish the reputation of Stags Leap District for fine Cabernet Sauvignon.Mt. George Vineyard 42% Located east of Napa, Mt. George Vineyard is the site of one of the first grape plantings in the valley in the 19th century. The deep, gravelly soils are derived from volcanic rock and ash, providing depth and structure to Silverados wines.Vinatage Notes What began with a wet winter and spring continued with rainfall into mid-June that delayed bloom and disrupted fruit set resulting in shatter in parts of the region set the stage for a long, cooler-than-average growing season with a later-than-average harvest beset with early October rain storms. This timetable continued through the somewhat cool summer season. Few high heat events occurred at any point this year, vine canopies were opened up to ensure sunlight, warmth and good air circulation around the grape clusters.Winemaking Notes The grapes were harvested at an average degree brix of 23.2. Fermentation was conducted in small stainless steel tanks where the wine spent an average of 15 days on the skins. After draining and pressing, the wine was put into 59 gallon oak barrels to undergo malolactic fermentation. 17 months of barrel age in 43% new oak, of which 94% was French and6 % was American.
