Description
The crown jewel of Langlois’ Sancerre holdings is at Château de Fontaine-Audon, a 37-acre vineyard from which they produce a single-vineyard Sancerre of the same name. 100% Sauvignon Blanc grown entirely on silex (flint) terroir, Langlois-Chateau’s single-vineyard Sancerre undergoes a gentle pressing, is fermented in stainless steel and then is kept on its lees for 6 months until bottling in April.

The 2022 Chateau de Fontaine-Audon signals its terroir on its label – silex (flint). That’s clear in its sinew and structure on the taut finish. A tension pervades this wine’s core, pulling it tight. Unlike wines off chalk, it is not aromatically charming and tender but more stony and fierce, but for that, I rather like it. If you’d prefer charm and tenderness, you can go for Langlois Chateau’s Chateau de Thauvenay, ‘ Terroir Calcaire’. It’s all a matter of taste.
