Imagine a mountain peak that fell down onto the valley floor a few million years ago during a particularly bad series of earthquakes. As it came to rest the “layer cake” of soil epochs turned vertical exposing rarely seen soil constructs. Add to this that the Hoxsey family has been farming grapes in the Napa Valley since 1903 and you get one of the most unusual and celebrated vineyards in the Napa Valley. Kendall Hoxsey cares for the vineyard with minimal intervention (no hedging, full vine expression, etc.) and continues her father’s pioneering commitment to Certified Organic grape growing.
The wine interprets this extraordinary place with soft, plush tannins and nervous, bright acidity. Down-valley cool mornings add a touch of black tea and rose petal to the varietal traits of blackberry and cassis.
