Description
The 2012 vintage was one of those rare years where both quality and yield were exceptional, probably the best overall since 2005. The growing season was ideal with slightly below average rainfall, moderate canopy growth and very little mildew or botrytis. Due to excellent spring weather, fruit set was ideal. Yields were about 20% above average and the resulting wines are elegant and balanced. The 2012 Estate Pinot Noir expresses exceptional aromatic complexity with notes of fresh black cherries and subtle rhubarb, followed by hints of toasted oak and ripe cranberry. This wine has flavors of raspberry, dried thyme, tobacco and finishes with a hint of black pepper. Medium in body, it expresses the savory mineral and earth characteristics of the Arroyo Grande Valley and pairs nicely with pan seared filet mignon or grilled salmon. – Talley Vineyards
