Description
The
50 & 50 Avignonesi Capannelle red wine is a blend originating from the Gaiole in Chianti area, the heart of the charming province of Siena. Its distinctive name tells the story of the long-standing and profound friendship between two famous Tuscan winemaking families, the Avignonesi and the Capannelle. In 1988, following a particularly fruitful harvest, the two historic Tuscan wineries decided to blend the results of their best blends and collaborate to create a unique formula. They created the 50 & 50 red wine by separately growing the
Sangiovese Capannelle grapes and the
Merlot grape of the Avignonesi di Montepulciano, and then combining the two wines to create an exclusive blend with a velvety texture. With its
IGT Toscana designation, this still red wine is made from vines grown on soils rich in clay, silt, and limestone. As it grows, it captures, with the changing seasons, the beneficial influences of the temperate, Mediterranean climate typical of the Sienese hills. The vines, trained either bush-trained, using the
Guyot system, or spurred cordon, yield their prized fruit, which is vinified in vertical, truncated-cone vats made of Slavonian oak. The 50 & 50 Avignonesi Capannelle
red wine then continues its
aging in barrique barrels for a period of 24 months. Winner of numerous awards and recognitions, this highly prestigious and classy wine earns high scores in the evaluations of James Suckling and Robert Parker, but also promptly collects the prestigious
Grappoli di Bibenda.
