Critical Acclaim

98 points James Suckling

Very precise, focused aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant and dark chocolate with violet and light tar undertones. Floral. Full-bodied, yet so manicured and refined with tannins that are polished and slightly dusty. Vibrant energy in the tannins, instead of just raw power. Some minerality. Very long finish. 65% cabernet sauvignon, 15% merlot,, 13% petit verdot, and 4% cabernet franc. Try after 2027, but already such a beautiful young wine. 580 cases made. (02/2021)

The 2018 Bettina is a regal wine. Bright floral and spice accents lend energy to the red-toned fruit. As always, Bettina is a Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend from the estate and several David Abreu sites, in this vintage Madrona Ranch, Bryant and Thorevilos. Healthy dollops of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot add notable layers of complexity. Iron, sage, dried leaves, tobacco and red-toned fruit linger. (Drink between 2026-2043) (AG, 01/2022)

The 2018 Bettina Bryant Proprietary Red Wine is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 18% Malbec and 13% Petit Verdot. It was aged in French oak, 75% new, and bottled in July 2020. This year there was a small amount of stem inclusion with the Cabernet Franc fermentation. Very deep purple-black colored, it opens with beautiful spice and floral notions of cinnamon, cloves, lavender and roses over a core of black and red currant jelly, Morello cherries and boysenberries with a waft of dusty soil. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is very tightly wound with firm, fine-grained tannins and lovely freshness, finishing long and mineral laced. 580 cases were made. (LPB, 11/2020)
