Winemakers Notes
Our finest Sonoma County Syrah to date? Along with our 2006, we believe so. Composed of Syrah from Rossi Ranch in Sonoma Valley, Papa’s Block in Russian River Valley, Steiner Vineyard on Sonoma Mountain, and a splash of yummy-ness from Paso Robles, any one of these components could have stood on its own as an outstanding wine. But blending them together? Pure magic! Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
39% Sonoma Valley Syrah, Rossi Ranch
23% Paso Robles Syrah
19% Russian River Syrah, Papa’s Block
19% Sonoma Mountain Syrah, Steiner Vineyard
Tasting Note:
Dark garnet-purple with a magenta rim. High pitched, explosive aromas of blackberry, smoked game, black olives, and violets leap from the glass. Very Syrah! The wine enters full and rich, with flavors of blackberry and violet enveloping the tongue. Suave tannins from mid-palate through the finish provide plenty of clarity and cut. Delicious now, optimum drinking should be between release and 2017. (MRO – 3/15/11)

An amazingly gorgeous wine, pure, rich, layered, complex and elegant, with a dense, graceful mix of black fruits, espresso, herb, sage, mineral and tobacco. Yet for all its expansive fruit flavors, what’s most striking is the finesse and balance this wine exhibits. *Highly Recommended* (JL)

The 2009 Syrah emerges from Rosella’s vineyard, although not indicated as such on the label. Dark plums, blackberries, black pepper, spices, licorice and flowers are some of the notes that take shape in the glass. This is a fairly bright style; with excellent acidity and the backbone to pair beautifully with a wide range of foods. It also happens to be a stunning value. The Carlisle Syrah spent 19 days on the skins and was fermented with 40% whole clusters. (AG)
