So every new release of the Caymus Napa Cabernet is a big deal. But a vintage like 2023 – which critics go so far as to compare to the freakishly great 1961 in Bordeaux – is something else altogether.

Now, as impressive as this was in the generally difficult 2022 vintage, imagine just how good it is in an all-time great vintage like 2023!

The 2023 growing season in Napa Valley was characterized by a cool spring, plentiful rainfall, and a warm, but not excessively hot, summer. This allowed for a long, slow ripening process, which is crucial for developing complex flavors and tannins in Cabernet Sauvignon. The cool weather conditions allowed the grapes to hang on the vines longer, resulting in increased flavor development and a more refined tannin structure.
