The Wine
The Sangiacomo family are master viticulturists and multigenerational
winegrowers who have been farming since 1927. Their cool, windswept vineyard
in Sonoma’s Carneros region is ideally located bordering San Pablo Bay, where
the grapes slowly mature, developing intense varietal character, while retaining
excellent acidity and finesse. Made from this coveted fruit, this mouth-filling wine
displays beautiful layers of stone fruits and citrus, as well as French oak-inspired
layers of vanilla and spice.
Growing Season & Harvest
With early season rains saturating soils and a cool spring and summer that ensured
generous hangtime, 2023 offered perfect weather that took the grapes to another
level. To provide airflow and light on the grapes, we pruned and leafed early
and often. Though later than normal, both budbreak and bloom were excellent
with overall yields up slightly. The weather stayed cool into fall, with only one
September day above 90° F, before things warmed up in October providing a final
push to ripeness. Though harvest was compact, we were able to pick everything
at the ideal moment, producing vibrant and refined white wines with a perfect
balance of texture and acidity.
Tasting Notes
Vibrant, complex and impeccably polished, this wine draws you in with aromas
of pineapple, orange zest, lemon custard and tropical flowers, as well as rich
notes of brioche, crème fraiche, vanilla bean, nutmeg and clove. On the palate
it is lush and creamy, with a layered mouthfeel and flavors of ripe citrus,
apricot, crème brûlée and French oak-inspired barrel spice, with a beam of
bright acidity carrying the flavors to a long, luxurious finish.
