Critical Acclaim
94 points James Halliday
Full red-purple; wonderfully rich, sweet and juicy licorice, black cherry and sweet oak flood the bouquet. The palate is redolent of licorice and cherry fruit supported by high-toned clove spice American oak. A show-stopper style which has been wonderfully handled.
90 points Robert Parker
The 1997 Shiraz Reserve is made from the estate’s oldest vines, this wine was aged in 100% new oak, and achieved a whopping 14.5% alcohol. It exhibits a deep plum/purple color, as well as sweet, jammy, blackberry aromas and flavors intertwined with smoky new oak. Some pepper is noticeable, but this is an unevolved, harmonious, exuberant, richly fruity, powerhouse wine that also displays considerable finesse and elegance. (RP)
