Description

Domaine de Fondrèche is owned by Sébastien Vincenti who produces organic wines in Ventoux. Fondrèche is one of the best run if not the finest estate in the Ventoux. Shrewd consumers have been stocking up on these wines for a number of years as they represent terrific values. They all exhibit beautifully pure fruit infused with plenty of Provencal character. According to Robert Parker “This is the superstar estate of the Côtes du Ventoux”. Sebastien is currently working towards being totally biodynamic. His vineyard of 37 hectares is located on a plateau where the soil, has very good water retention capacities and so gives water to the plant only when it is necessary. Sebastien works organically and is currently in the process of converting the Domaine to being totally biodynamic. Even the sheep manure he uses as fertiliser comes from organically reared sheep. Both in the vineyard and in the cellar everything is carried out according to the lunar calendar.

Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate (February, 2008) “Fondreche is the reference point for what can be done in the Côtes du Ventoux. This is a source of sensational wines that still sell for incredibly fair prices, and virtually every one of these selections proves that you don’t have to drink luxury-priced Bordeaux, Burgundy or Napa Cabernets to experience the multiple joys of wine.”

Deep colour, an intense nose of red berries, black cherry, blueberry, raspberry, violet and woody spices. Generous, harmonious, round and silky on the palate.

91 points James Suckling

Wild strawberries, blueberries, stones and wild herbs on the nose. It’s medium-bodied with sleek, firm tannins. Fresh and fruity with vibrant acidity and a flavorful finish. (6/2021)

91 points Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

“The main production of the estate, the 2019 Ventoux Rouge is a blend of 50% Grenache, 40% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre, aged in equal parts barriques, foudres and concrete eggs. Bottled in May 2020, with no additions until bottling (sulfur). It offers impressively concentrated notes of rich mixed berries on the nose, while the palate is medium to full-bodied and supple, folding in blueberries, black cherries and more savory notes of roasted meat and black olives. The wine turns velvety on the lengthy finish, adding a hint of licorice. Although the retail price is yet to be finalized, it’ll likely be one of the finest values to be found in the Southern Rhône-the 2018 retails for less than $20. (JC)” (10/2020)

90 points Wine Spectator

“A suave and charming wine, with graceful plum and cherry notes swirling along with hints of black tea, singed sandalwood and tobacco. Focused finish. (JM)”  (5/2021)
