Description
Heredad de Baroja belongs to that little cosmos of Alava winegrowers whom the new times have forced to modernize, yet without losing the roots of people devoted to the land and to the well-understood tradition. This Crianza comes from the municipality of Villar of Alava, a unique geographical situation, which vineyards are protected by the Sierra Cantabria and with some influence of the Ebro river microclimate. The vineyards are situated on mainly limestone soils that contribute to its elegance and definition of Tempranillo with its fruity potency of good sunshine, which characterizes these Rioja lands.
Made with 100% Tempranillo grapes, the clusters were picked by hand. After the selection the grapes had their stems removed and were squeezed. The grape juice was fermented in tanks at 28°C for 4 days, followed by other 4 days to macerate the skin with the wine, the process, which helps extract the structure and the fruit complexity. The red wine was aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels. After this process the wine was matured during bottle ageing for at least 6 months.
In the nose the wine is very clear, with a good fruit-wood balance, in which lactic tones, oak and ripe fruit vanilla merge. Its taste in the mouth is soft, but filling the palate with volume, rich in fruity and spicy flavors, also feeling fine tannins. The wine has a long and very elegant aftertaste in the mouth.
