Description
One of Champagne’s most exciting and dynamic young producers, Jean-Marc Sélèque is based in Pierry in the Coteaux Sud d’Epernay. Farming is essentially organic, with some biodynamic practices, with the soils cultivated mechanically (in some instances, by horse) and canopies hedged higher than the average for additional shade and photosynthesis. Based on the 2017 vintage and disgorged in November 2020 with minimal dosage, Sélèque’s NV Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Quintette bursts with scents of citrus oil, fresh bread, nougat, dried white flowers and crisp orchard fruit. Medium to full-bodied, chiseled and incisive, it’s tightly wound, with racy acids and chalky structuring dry extract, concluding with a long, saline finish. This will amply reward a few years’ patience.
