Description
La Hormiga Roja is an approachable young wine with a subtle touch of second-use barrel. An intense purple-red color announces a fruity bouquet of blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries. With time, a floral component develops. This wine is fresh and juicy on the palate, with pleasant acidity and good balance.As is typical in the region, La Hormiga Roja has been carefully sourced from plots of hearty Grenache which are able to thrive in the hottest part of southeastern Spain. The vineyard enjoys a continental Mediterranean climate, very irregular rainfall, and extreme temperatures in the summer and winter, though it rarely snows. The soil has a loam and sandy-loam texture, with low organic matter but with good water retention under the surface.
