Description
Region It is located in the central part of Chile, including the sub Valleysof Cachapoal and Colchagua. It exhibits a semiarid Mediterranean climate with a winteronly rainfall pattern. During the growing season, we have warm and dry days and pleasantly cool nights as a result of cold breezes coming from the Andes Mountains. Rapel also has a cool influence from the Pacifics Humboldt Current which lowers temperatures in the coastal areas of the Valley. This leads to warm days with ample sunlight and dry conditions, allowing a slow ripening period and maintain its natural acidity that is a characteristic of our Casa range.Tasting ColorDeep ruby red color with purple hints.NoseExpressive and complex nose with expressions of ripe red fruit and spices.PalateRound texture, with fresh and juicy tannins, pleasant and long finish.Service and Food PairingServe from 16 C 60 F to 18 C 64 F. The ideal companion for pastas, pork and grilled red meat.Harvest The winter of 2010, with a cold July, delayed the bud break by approximately 10 days and that delay was maintained during spring. Summer was colder than normal with limited sunlight and December and January brought some rainfall, which was unusual but beneficial for the vineyard after the dry winter and spring conditions. The cloudy summer decreased the amount of sunlight, so maturity came at regular but slow pace and excess sun exposure, which can sometimes occur, was not an issue. Fall brought threatening clouds so it was very important to harvest quickly considering the risk of rain. The 2011 vintage delivered excellent conditions to produce elegant, complex and fruity wines.Vinification All the grapes were harvested by hand in small cases of 14 kilos and carefully transported to the winery. We obtained clean and pure fruit by our state of the art optical selection. Then all the grapes were macerated up to 4 weeks to extract structure and colour. During maceration, the fermentation lasted about 2 weeks in stainless steel tanks, at 28-30 C, utilizing native yeast. After maceration 50% of the wine was aged for six months in second and third use French oak barrels to add an extra layer of complexity. The result is great fruit expression with a smooth and pleasant palate. – Casa Lapostolle
