Description
Wine& Food PairingOur Warrelwind Sauvignon blanc is a palate pleasing wine harmonious and well-balanced, showing typical green herbaceous flavours as well as richer tropical and grapefruit notes. Light straw in colour with a green tinge, it has a lively bouquet of tropical fruit. Our more coastal vineyards impart herbaceous, Granny Smith apple and capsicum notes. On the palate the wine shows bright tropical fruit flavours of passion fruit and pineapple complemented by crisp, well integrated acidity. The wine has a rich, full structure from our semillon with a rounded and lenthy finish. With an abundance of flavours from both sides of the Sauvignon spectrum, this wine suits a wider audience, but will please any Sauvignon Blanc fan!Vineyards A blend of grapes from warmer agter- paarl vineyards for riper, tropical notes 50%, and cooler, higher-elevation vineyards in Stellenbosch, Elgin and Franschhoek for the greener, herba- ceous characters 50%.Winemaking Techniques Harvesting takes place over 3 weeks at different ripeness levels to capture a wider range of flavours. Reductive winemaking minimal air/oxygen contact preserves freshness and fruitiness, while 3 months maturation on the lees gives additional complexity and integration. 11% Semillion is added for palate weight and complexity. The wine was fined and filtered before bottling.Vintage Conditions A dry winter in 2015 made for an interesting 2016 harvest. El Nino arrived in the Cape in October 2015 and the following 6 months were virtually without any rain. In our already dry-farmed, arid region the conditions were even harsher. Luckily our bush vine vineyards could utilise deep roots to dig for water. Yields were low, berries were small and ripening was quick. Overall the white grapes were in good condition, disease-free due to the dry and windly conditions and ripened sooner than previous vintages. Alcohols are slightly lower, but fruit and aroma remains infact.Warrelwind Sauvignon BlancOur sauvignon Blanc is produced from higher, cooler vineyards in the Cape. Warrelwind wrilwind are common in the vineyards throughout summer. The seasonal winds cool the grapes and turn windmills dotting the landscape. – MAN Vintners
