Description
100% Sangiovese. This Sangiovese rosato pet-nat is part of Silvio Messana’s new small-project négoce line, bottled in clear glass with a crown cap and Silvio’s rather than Montesecondo’s name. That said, the fruit for Ghazii is actually organically farmed and hand-harvested Montesecondo fruit, from vines that are slow to or unable to ripen well enough for the estate reds (but the packaging identifies it as a departure from the core Montesecondo wines). Whole clusters are direct-pressed and the juice spontaneously fermented with indigenous yeasts in tank. The wine is bottled with about 10 grams RS and finishes fermenting in the bottle. The bottles are not disgorged so there is sediment. There is zero addition of sulfur at any point. The name references Silvio’s North African upbringing: “Ghazii” with one “i” in Arabic means sparkling, or “gassy”, water and with the double “ii” is nickname for anti-colonial North African fighters.
