Gattinara
Valferana is a still red wine with an ancient tradition. It is produced in the province of
Vercelli in the municipality of the same name, making it a DOCG red wine from the
Piedmont region.
Gattinara Valferana from the
Nervi winery is made in the Valferana vineyard, originally called Val Florana, right below Monte Rosa. And it is precisely the proximity of such a high mountain that, combined with the magnificent exposure to the sun’s rays, creates a microclimate where Nebbiolo grapes tend to thrive. In fact, Gattinara is made 100% from
Nebbiolo grapes, which in this particular production area are called uva spanna. This is the production process for
Gattinara Valferana carried out by the Piedmontese winery
Nervi: it begins with destemming and gentle pressing, followed by fermentation in temperature-controlled steel tanks. After vinification, the wine ages for three years in large oak barrels, followed by further maturation in old concrete vats. A further 3-6 months in the bottle allows the product to reach the heights of quality renowned throughout Italy and beyond.
Gattinara tastes best after around ten years, but the producer promises a much longer shelf life for its wine, naturally without losing its exceptional qualities.
