Description
The name Hermitage La Chapelle is linked to the small chapel of Saint-Christophe overlooking the terraced vineyard overlooking the Rhône. The Maison Paul Jaboulet Aîné has been the sole owner since 1919. The diversity of the terroirs of the “lieux-dits” gives the wine a particular identity thanks to the blending of the different plots.
There are a little under 500 cases of the 2021 Hermitage La Chapelle Blanc, which is all Marsanne. As with all the whites here, malo was blocked, and this was vinified and aged in concrete. It’s another Chablis-like effort offering bright citrus, honeyed grapefruit, green apple, and exotic floral notes in a medium-bodied, vibrant, racy style. It picks up a distinct salinity on the finish, and as with the Chevalier de Sterimberg, it’s going to evolve for a good decade. Maturity: 2022-2032. Score – 92
