Description
Originating from different terroirs in Cotes du Rhone Villages, this wine is one of the most faithful illustrations of the Southern Rhone Valley. The Vintage The 2014 vintage is unexpected for the region. A mild and wet winter, a hot and dry spring and temperate and humid summer characterizes this vintage. An atypical year, a winemakers vintage. Bud-break took place very early and flowering was carried out in ideal conditions and fruit set was excellent, especially on Grenache. However, work in the vineyards and constant monitoring were necessary all the way through to harvest. The months of July and August were humid favouring growth. The best terroirs of the Cotes du Rhone were identified historically and only 20% can be labelled Villages. Normally found on geological faults, they also benefit from a geological complexity that produces grapes of superior quality.Situation Just 20% of the Cotes-du-Rhone vineyard is entitled to add the word Villages after the words Cotes-du-Rhone. These are the best vineyard sites.Terrior Clay and limestone soils and gravelly soils.Process Harvest took place in the second half of September. Yields were superior to 2013 35hl / ha offering nice balance.Tasting In this vintage, this wine shows a lot of fruit, a beautiful freshness and plenty character. The Grenache / Syrah blend marry beautifully. Nice aromas of red and black fruit, a beautiful aromatic intensity, the mouth is fresh and generous. The silky tannins accompany a long and aromatic finish.Reviews And Rewards Rounded and forward, with friendly plum and black cherry fruit lined with a light tobacco note. The soft finish shows a faint echo of mint. Drink now. 8,333 cases made.Note 87/100 – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 01/11/2016The 2014 Cotes du Rhone Villages is a rock solid, peppery, Provencal efforts that did well in the vintage. The Cotes du Rhone Villages has more richness than its sibling, the Cotes du Rhone Reserve, which is slightly more elegant and floral.Note 88/100 – Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, 01/10/2015. – Famille Perrin / Perrin & Fils
