Description
To make Valpolicella Ripasso, the same traditional indigenous varieties (Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, and Oseleta) are fermented normally, then re-fermented on the skins left over from the Amarone fermentation. The result is a mid-weight wine with some of the dried-fruit and potpourri character of the Amarone, but fresher, lower in alcohol, and more useful as a table wine.
Wildly perfumed in the glass, the 2020 Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso Morandina bursts with a peppery mix of spiced citrus rinds, dried flowers and red currants. This washes across the palate with silky textures offset by a salty core of minerals and tart wild berry fruits. A pretty inner sweetness comes forward through the finale as the 2020 finishes long and lightly structured, leaving a licorice hint to resonate on. Wow, the sheer drinkability embodied in this vintage of Ripasso Morandina is something to behold.
A solid ripasso with a mix of fresh and dried fruit, from raspberries to dates, as well as some oak spice. Bright, medium-bodied palate with a good backbone of tannin, though not hard. The fruit remains untainted throughout.
