About Robert Mondavi Winery
Robert Mondavi established his namesake winery in 1966 with a vision to create Napa Valley wines that would stand in the company of the world’s finest. He chose To Kalon Vineyard in the heart of the Napa Valley as the home for Robert Mondavi Winery. This first-growth vineyard, located in Oakville, California, is renowned for producing some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon wines in the world, as well as for its Sauvignon Blanc grapes, from which Mr. Mondavi crafted his signature wine, Fumé Blanc. Mr. Mondavi believed that wines should reflect their origins, that they are the product of the soil, the climate, and the careful stewardship of those precious resources. He also believed in combining the newest techniques and technology with time-honored winemaking traditions. Our winemaking and vineyard teams are proud to carry on our founder’s mandate to always strive higher, to pursue Robert Mondavi’s goal of excellence with the same passion and innovative spirit, moving forward with programs that break barriers and open new frontiers.
Wines from Napa Valley
Napa Valley is considered one of the premier wine regions in the world. Records of commercial wine production in the region date back to the nineteenth century, but premium wine production dates back only to the 1960s.
The combination of Mediterranean climate, geography and geology of the region are conducive to growing quality wine grapes. John Patchett established the Napa Valley’s first commercial vineyard in 1858. In 1861 Charles Krug established another of Napa Valley’s first commercial wineries in St. Helena. Viticulture in Napa suffered several setbacks in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including an outbreak of the vine disease phylloxera, the institution of Prohibition, and the Great Depression. The wine industry in Napa Valley recovered, and helped by the results of the Paris Wine Tasting of 1976, came to be seen as capable of producing the best quality wine – equal to that of Old World wine regions. Napa Valley is now a major enotourism destination.
California Wines
California wine production has a rich viticulture history since 1680 when Spanish Jesuit missionaries planted Vitis vinifera vines native to the Mediterranean region in their established missions to produce wine for religious services. In the 1770s, Spanish missionaries continued the practice under the direction of the Father Junípero Serra planted California’s first vineyard at Mission San Juan Capistrano.
The state produces about ninety percent of the American wine supply and is the fourth largest wine producer among the world’s independent nations. It has more than 1,200 wineries ranging from home-grown and small boutiques to large corporations with international distribution.
Robert Mondavi Winery Napa Valley Fume Blanc White Wine is a light wine with a refreshing, mouthwatering flavor. Deliciously complex orange marmalade, honey, marzipan, orange zest and buttery crust flavors mix together with aromas of caramelized red apples, nuts, brown sugar and nougat in every sip. This California white wine combines sauvignon blanc with a small percentage of semillon grapes to give the final blend a broader mouthfeel and enhanced complexity. The unique geography and climate of Napa Valley produce delicious grapes that give Robert Mondavi wine its distinctive character and intense fruit flavor. Ninety percent of this fume blanc wine is barrel fermented for added richness and complexity, while the remainder undergoes a cool fermentation in stainless steel to heighten the vibrant fruity and herbal flavors. Pair a glass of this table white wine with fish, oysters, cheese or vegetables. Refrigerate this bottle of wine for 2 to 2 and a half hours, then serve chilled for optimal taste. Please enjoy our wines responsibly. © 2021 Robert Mondavi Winery, Oakville, CA
