Description
Clean, bright, ruby red with an intense pink rim. Great aromatic intensity, typical of this Rioja Alavesa terroir, with notes of dark wild berries, blackberries, blueberries against a background of incense, cedar oil, ground coffee, liquorice, black pepper, mints and aniseed. Powerful entry; fresh with a good structure and a sweet, persistent tannic load. Pleasantly big aftertaste where notes of wild berry jam, liquorice, peppers, cedar oil and aniseed return in harmony. Ideal with roasted and charbroiled fish and meat, spicy casseroles with wine or red fruit sauce and smoked and aged cheeses.

“More Alavesa in style” is how winemaker Julio Sáenz describes this blend of Tempranillo with 5% Mazuelo from the cooler, later-picked parts of the Torre de Oña estate. Dense, serious and backward, with structured tannins, tangy acidity and lots of primary fruit flavours. 2021-30. Alcohol: 14

Vinous
Limpid ruby. Red currant, dried cherry and a hint of vanillin oak on the nose, with a smoky nuance in the background. Lively red fruit and floral pastille flavors show fine definition and a touch of spiciness on the back half. Echoes the cherry note on the long finish, which is framed by smooth, even tannin’s. Drinking window: 2021 – 2026
