Description
Cantine Volpetti, located in the heart of the Colli Albani DOC in Lazio, is situated on the volcanic slopes just south of Rome. Since it was established in 1958, the Volpetti family winery has been producing wines with the constant objective of enhancing and characterizing the indigenous varietals of the region, such as Malvasia Puntinata, Bellone and Cesanese, as well as cultivating popular Italian like Sangiovese, Montepulciano and Trebbiano. Volpetti focuses on a strict adherence to quality through a marriage of tradition and oenological innovation.
Volpetti’s Le Piantate (The Planted) Cesanese pours intensely deep red with garnet flecks throughout. A swirl of the glass reveals rich aromas of overripe red berries, blackberry jam and spice. The palate is full, luscious and soft, displaying dark fruit flavors — plum and black raspberry — kissed with light spice. This Cesanese is finely structured with a perfect balance of tannin and acidity. An ideal pairing for braised and roasted meat dishes, for the adventurous… try copadia, an ancient Roman beef stew, over polenta. Other options include pot roast, venison filet or simply a plate of aged cheeses.
