Description

”Wild Ridge Pinot Noir is a true expression of coastal Pinot Noir. Naturally bright acidity and firm yet integrated tannins complement multiple layers of aroma and flavor.Craig McAllister, WinemakerWild Ridge Pinot Noir is grown on our vineyards located on the far western edge of Californias Sonoma Coast. The 900 elevation site is a stones throw from the hamlet of Annapolis, an extreme setting blessed with a steady supply of cool marine air, goldridge soils and dense forest surrounding the perimeter. This wildness comes through as clear as a bell vibrant blue fruit, spice and savory elements flow through a texture thats both mouth-filling and stonythe mirror expression of our Wild Ridge terroir.GROWING SEASON NOTES Conditions for the 2014 harvest were once again near ideal. As a result of a mild winter and a warm spring, the Pinot Noir harvest began roughly 1-2 weeks earlier than normal. Throughout harvest the weather continued to co operate beautifully allowing the grapes ample sunshine to achieve optimal ripeness and flavor development while the cooling breezes maintained the vibrant acidity. The Pinot Noir harvest on the extreme Sonoma Coast took place between September 8 & September 20.HARVEST & WINEMAKINGHarvested in the cool night and early morning, each vineyard block was kept separate. Fruit was hand sorted and gently de-stemmed, with 70% whole berries going in the tank. The fruit was then cold soaked at 48F for 3-5 days.Fermentation took place in open top tanks, and was punched down 3 times per day.Post-fermentation, free run was transferred to tank for one night of settling before racking to new and used French oak barrels. While in barrel, the wine undergoes 100% Malolactic Fermentation.TASTING NOTES The 2014 Wild Ridge is a classic expression of true Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. Aromas of fresh blackberry, ripe red cherries & oolong tea are complimented by flavors of pomegranate, raspberry and orange zest. Naturally bright acids provide some lift and firm yet integrated tannins underpin the structure of the wine. ” – Wild Ridge
