WINEMAKERS NOTES
Papera Vineyard is an old-vine Zinfandel vineyard, located on the eastern side of the Laguna de Santa Rosa in the Russian River AVA, Sonoma County, California. The vineyard is named for Charley Papera, who planted the vines in 1934, the year after the 21st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified, repealing Prohibition. Most of Charley’s original planting remains in place today.
The old vines are head trained and dry farmed to produce high quality harvests, resulting in intensely flavorful grapes.
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
95 points Wine Enthusiast
This is huge in fruit, like Godzilla trampling skyscrapers underfoot. Yet it’s so exquisitely balanced in all its parts, it possesses a Zen-like stillness at the center of all these massive, swirling elements. This is easily Williams Selyem’s best Papera Zin yet. So rich in black raspberry jam, red currant, mocha, pepper and sweet sandalwood flavors, yet so focused, it just blows your mind. *Editors’ Choice*

This sleek red is jammy and bold, with youthful fruit. Floral raspberry and mineral aromas lead to layered, supple boysenberry, caramel and spicy sage flavors. Hard to resist now, but should benefit from a few more years in the cellar as the wine gains focus. (TF)
